In the desolate whiteness above the arctic circle, a legend is born, "Charcoal" a SPECIAL black polar bear. Separated from his family during a fierce snowstorm, Charcoal is saved by a friendly Inuit couple and becomes the pride of their little village of Kotzebue. Lonely for his animal family, Charcoal sadly leaves the comfort of civilization and ventures into the wild. Along the way the meets Roger, an arctic hare, and joins Charcoal in his quest. Little do the two know that they are being stalked by two French fur traders, and will eventually find an unlikely ally along the trail.
